What Is Medicare?

Medicare, a fundamental health insurance program offered by the Federal government, is tailored for individuals aged 65 and older, as well as those under 65 who meet specific criteria. Whether you're approaching 65 or already in that age bracket, it's crucial to grasp your healthcare options to select the ideal coverage that suits your needs.

If you're 65 or older, you're eligible to enroll in Medicare if:

  • You're a United States citizen or legally residing in the U.S.
  • Either you or your spouse contributed to Medicare taxes during your employment.

Additionally, if you're under 65, you may qualify if:

  • You're a United States citizen or legally residing in the U.S.
  • You have specific disabilities or medical conditions.

The 4 Parts of Medicare

Medicare consists of 4 different parts that cover different types of health benefits. These are referred to as Medicare Part A, Part B, Part C, and Part D. The term "Original Medicare" refers to Medicare Parts A & B.

Part A | Hospital Insurance

Medicare Part A takes care of expenses for hospital stays (referred to as "inpatient" care), along with coverage for skilled nursing facilities, home health care, and hospice care.

Part B | Medical Insurance

Medicare Part B assists in covering expenses for medical services such as doctor visits, tests, outpatient hospital services, and similar healthcare services.

Part C | Medicare Advantage Plans

Traditional Medicare coverage is solid, but juggling multiple plans, ID cards, bills, and networks can be a hassle. Switching to a Medicare Advantage plan through a trusted private company like Retied Health Group streamlines everything you need into one comprehensive plan.

Part D | Prescription Drug Coverage

Part D includes coverage for numerous commonly prescribed brand name and generic medications. Unlike Original Medicare, it doesn't provide coverage for prescription drugs. The cost of a Part D plan fluctuates based on the plan type you opt for. You can either bundle Part D with a Part C (Medicare Advantage) plan or purchase it separately as a standalone Part D plan.
